ASTM D3273 Fungus Resistance Test for Antimicrobial Coated Surfaces
Standard Antimicrobial Testing Method (ASTM D 3273) for Resistance to Growth of Mold on the surface of interior coatings in an environmental chamber
Purpose of ASTM D3273 Test
ASTM D 3273 is used to evaluate Fungal defacement or Resistance to Growth of Mold on the surface of interior coatings.
ASTM D3273 Test
This antimicrobial testing method (ASTM D3273) describes a small environmental chamber and the conditions of operation to evaluate reproducibly in a four (4) week period, the relative resistance of paint films to surface mold, fungi, mildew growth in a severe interior environment.
This test method encompasses a four week period of evaluation of the resistance of paint films to surface mold fungi. Throughout the testing process and analysis of results, a comparison evaluation is constructed in reference to the resistance of the interior coatings (paint films, etc.) to accelerated growth of mildew. Temperature and humidity are controlled within narrow limits, which is necessary in order for the test panels to develop quickly and maintain certain moisture levels that support the growth of mold.
Test Panels Size for ASTM D3273 Test
12.7 mm (1⁄2 in.) thick, 75 by 100 mm (3 by 4 in.)
Preparation of Test Panels for ASTM D3273 test
Test Panels for ASTM D3273 Antimicrobial test are prepared in triplicate .
Two coats of the antimicrobial test material are applied to both faces and to all edges of the panels allowing 1 day between coats unless otherwise specified.
Turn Around Time for ASTM D3273 Test
Panels are observed each week for 4 weeks.
