Disinfectants
The AOAC Use-Dilution methods, 955.14 (Salmonella enterica), 955.15 (Staphylococcus aureus), and 964.02 (Pseudomonas aeruginosa), are used to measure the efficacy of disinfectants on hard surfaces.
AOAC Use Dilution Disinfectant test method is a carrier based test method. Carriers which are stainless steel small cylinders are inoculated with high counts of test organism and the carriers are then dried. These test organism contaminated carriers are then immersed in 10 ml of liquid disinfectant for exposure time advised by the sponsor of the study. After exposure of the disinfectant to the test organism, the carriers are then transferred to a liquid growth media with neutralizer to neutralized the test substance inhibitory action and detect the surviving test organisms.
